I had a mixed experience during my stay at The Hermitage Hotel. While the location offered stunning views of Mt. Cook and the room was clean and comfortable, the dining experience left much to be desired. I paid a premium for a corner room with a balcony that showcased beautiful mountain views, but the overall quality of the room did not match the high price I paid. 😕

Rooms
6.0
The corner room on the 10th floor had great views but felt a bit basic for the price. I appreciated the cleanliness and amenities, like a refrigerator and coffee maker, but the closet was small and there were some design flaws.
Service
5.0
Though some staff were friendly, I had an unpleasant encounter during breakfast where I was questioned about paying for our meal. This made for an awkward start to my second day here.
Location
8.0
The location is fantastic, with easy access to hiking trails and amazing vistas of Mt. Cook right from my window. This was definitely a highlight of my stay! đŸ”ïž
Dining

The breakfast buffet had good options, but the dinner buffet was disappointing in both quality and service. The dining area felt cafeteria-like, and some staff did not meet my expectations for hospitality.
Facilities

The hotel had decent facilities, including a clean and tidy atmosphere, but some areas looked worn and needed attention.

I had a mixed experience at The Hermitage Hotel. While the amazing view of Mount Cook blew me away, I found some aspects of the hotel to be underwhelming, especially regarding service and dining options. However, the location is unbeatable for enjoying the great outdoors and amazing scenery, making it an overall worthwhile stay.

Rooms

My room offered stunning views, but the maintenance left something to be desired with scuffed doors and a dated bathroom. It felt a bit like a basic hotel despite the amazing scenery.
Service
6.0
The reception staff seemed friendly, but overall, the service felt a bit lacking. I sometimes felt like I was navigating things on my own without much assistance.
Location
10.0
The location is absolutely fantastic for hiking and enjoying nature. I couldn't get enough of the scenery around Mount Cook.
Dining
7.0
Dining options were quite limited, with only an expensive buffet or a café that had strange hours. I had a pleasant dinner at the Panorama Room, but the buffet prices seemed steep for what was offered.
Facilities
7.0
Facilities were decent but not really good. I appreciated having a shop and a welcome drink, though the café timings felt restrictive.

I had a decent stay at The Hermitage Hotel, but it came with its ups and downs. The stunning views of Aoraki Mt Cook were definitely a highlight, and the room was clean and simple. However, I felt the lack of soundproofing and drawer space really impacted my comfort. Plus, dining was quite pricey given the remote location, which might make you wanna explore other options.

Rooms
6.0
The room was clean and simple, but lacked drawer space and had significant noise issues. My view was amazing, but overall, the comfort factors fell short for the price.
Service
7.0
Service was hit or miss; most staff were friendly and helpful, but there were a couple of frustrating experiences, such as with the room issues and car charging fees.
Location
9.0
The hotel's location in the national park is fantastic, right at the heart of Mount Cook, making it super convenient for hiking trails and exploring the area.
Dining

Dining options were decent but pricey. The buffet offered a good range of food for breakfast and dinner, though I would’ve liked to see more innovative choices.
Facilities
6.0
The facilities were adequate, but I found the lack of basic hotel amenities like a proper fridge a bit disappointing.

My stay at The Hermitage was largely enjoyable, thanks to the lovely mountain views and friendly service. However, the dining options were limited and pricey, which left me wishing for more variety. I also found the buffet dinners to be underwhelming for the cost. Overall, the location is stunning, but there are some areas for improvement.

Rooms
8.0
The Premium Twin Room was cozy with stunning views of the snow-capped mountains, but the beds were way too soft for my liking. I appreciated the included amenities, though the pillows could have been comfier.
Service

The staff were friendly and really helpful with planning my activities. They definitely had a great attitude and were engaging, which I appreciated during my stay.
Location
10.0
The location is stunning, with amazing views and great hiking trails nearby. It felt magical to wake up surrounded by such natural beauty, and the peace of the area made it even better.
Dining
6.0
Dining was a bit of a letdown. The buffet dinners were overpriced and I found the quality lacking, especially compared to other meals I had in New Zealand. I think the hotel really needs more dining options, especially for vegetarians.
Facilities
7.0
While the hotel had good facilities like a helpful activity desk and shops, I would’ve loved to see some renovations and better food options available. It definitely could use a little updating.

The location of The Hermitage Hotel in Aoraki / Mount Cook was truly amazing, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. however, my experience was marred by several disappointing aspects. The service felt impersonal and inefficient, and while I enjoyed the buffet breakfast, it quickly lost its appeal. The room was pleasant but did not meet my expectations for the price I paid.

Rooms
6.0
The room offered very nice views, though it was a bit outdated and lacked proper sound insulation from adjacent noises.
Service
5.0
Staff interactions were inconsistent; some were welcoming while others felt unhelpful and inattentive.
Location
10.0
The hotel's location was perfect for exploring Mount Cook National Park, with grand views right outside my window.
Dining

The food in the buffet was varied, but it felt overcrowded and the quality was just average, leaving me wanting more.
